How can the f-150 that is alot bigger and heavier and have a bigger engine waste almost the same fuel as the Ranger? :icon_confused:
The 3.7 Liter engine in the ford f-150 wastes the same gas a a ranger with a 3.0. It also has almost twice the hp and tourque. How is this possible?

I would love to see this 3.7 L engine in the Ranger. I bet it would have the fuel economy of the 2.3L and the power of a mustang!!!:headbang:

Are you sure your ranger is OK? My ranger is like 1/2 of my 1/2 ton for fuel, it's a 2.9 4x4, where as the 1/2 ton is a 5.7, 2-wheeler, and the ranger still gets way better gas mileage, Mind you, it didn't when I first bought it about a year ago...... (fuel pressure regulator).

Oh, BBF ? U in the peg or what ?

Actually since it is pushing a bigger heavier brick through the same air it wastes less gas because it is doing more work for the same if not better fuel burn.

I do think a 3.7 even in the extremely dated Ranger carcass would have have been a spectacular seller. :icon_thumby:

I am really rather surprised we haven't had anybody doing a swap yet, they have been out there for awhile now...

Sorry it's the f150's 3.5L ecoboost that get's the best gas mileage

The 3.5 L ecoboost from the f150 has 365 hp and 420 lbs of torque. 17 city and 19 highway mpgs in the f150. It's amazing motor really. If this motor were put in the ranger it's no doubt it would get nearly the same mpg's as the 4 banger and make the other 4.0 Liters Rangers look like 4 cylinders.

I think that would be the dream Ranger for all of us.:icon_bounceblue:

One reason might be the F-150's engine was an all-new design for 2011 (I think).
The Ranger/Explorer 4.0L's roots trace way back to 1968 (1997 being the last time any significant update took place).

I believe Ford did this on purpose (not give the Ranger an updated engine) just so they'd have another reason to kill it off.

yeah thats too bad. I guess they figure they can push consumers to pay more for the bigger f-150"s

This.

In a nutshell, it's technological advancement over time. For example, the old lima compared to the duratec 4.
