Why did I do something like this?

You're missing what everyone is telling you. There is a VSS in the transmission that sends a signal to your speedo.

The sensor in the rear diff is the ABS sensor. That 'gear' you are seeing is the tone ring that the ABS sensor reads.

Really thats interesting man, like I said Im not worried about the ABS light on as much as I would really like to know how fast Im going. Im confused because right where the hole is for that sensor there seems to be a gear, whats that for then? So the 96 speedo is ran by what? I hate being lost on something so small. AHHHH!!!!

The '96 speedo gets its signal from THE VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) ON THE TRANS. It looks like the VSS used on the earlier trucks, without the speedo cable. The sensor on the the rear is FOR THE ABS.

I said it once,I quoted it a second time. This is the third time. I dont like to repeat myself, so now for some payback:
Does the trans use the VSS or the ABS to know when to shift? If it uses the ABS sensor, your auto trans may not shift right (or at all). :thefinger:

Here is a pic of the speed sensor vss:

95-97 Rangers use a VSS. Again, yours will be located in the tail of the transmission.

Man I feel like a such a dummy, I thought that hole and that sensor was for the speedometer this whole time but its the ABS! So the speedo is hooked up to the tranny on the 1996 huh? Man I could have had that broncoII axle in the Ranger already. Somethings I swear some people's kids.

Yeah your right the spring perches are about 1 inch wider on each side. Cut and weld I suppose. This is a clear example for "Doing your homework" before you jump into things.

Will the locker in the BII axle work in a ranger 7.5 axle? If it will why don't you just put the locker in the axle you have now? If it wont swap out, or if it has a different gear ratio that you want, you should get an explorer axle that has a limited slip. Seems like a decent amount of work for an axle that will be a little narrower than stock, and not be any stronger.

What was the reason you bought the BII axle to begin with?

I brought the BroncoII axle well because 1 it has a locker and and different gear ratio and 2 well I couldn't pass it but 75.00 bucks. I have a 7.5 open diff with 3.45. I also have a 8.8 in the garage but again its open and has the 3.08 gears in them. Im tried of the Ranger almost getting stuck everywhere its a 2wd with the 3.0 and the 5 speed so its not to bad.
