Why did ford not put a under hood light on my 02 ranger fx4 off road ?

Ford should have put a under hood light because my 93 f-150 has a under hood light and the 02 f-150s have under hood light but not the 02 rangers ?

I don't have one in my 2003 Ranger. My buddy doesn't have one in his 2002. A hood light is a very good idea.

An underhood light hasn't been a common thing with all the vehicles I've owned and the ones that had one weren't all that bright. Better than nothing but a head lamp or magnetic work light is a handy thing to keep in the vehicle.

Sometimes the under hood light doesn't Shut off due to faulty or misadjusted gravity switch. Then it runs your battery down.

On my 93 Ranger, I keep the harness unplugged. On my 02 Superduty, the light and at least part of the harness is missing. Don’t Know if it ever had one. It’s a low priority item on my “to-do”list to install something. But I haven't Decided what I want. I actually pulled an OEM hood light at the junk yard. But, as noted, they aren’t Very bright even with LED bulb installed. And I don’t trust the little gravity actuated jiggle switch.

Back in the 80’s or 90’s, some vehicles (GM products?) had a little light in a cord reel under the hood. It worked as an under hood light and would also reach far enough to help if you had a flat tire. They still weren’t extremely bright, if I recall correctly.

It may have been an option. In wiring diagrams, I often see optional electrical components labeled with a notation that reads “with lighting group only” or something along those lines. Also, there is a chance that a previous owner removed it for some reason, such as parasitic battery drain because it wouldn’t turn off.
