If you look at my profile at the picture that comes up automatically. The bottom of the bumper has a 'lip' coming down off of it. Its hard to see in the picture though, but its the best I have while im at work.

What is this lip thing for? does it have any significant purpose?

to me, it just makes the bumper look like it sits two inches lower...

You are talking about the valance and not the bumper, Bro. I saw 'chop off and I wonder what you were talking about for a second....lol. I removed that deflector from my 99 Ranger. It is supposed to be an air deflector. It will not make any difference if you take it off. I took mine off the first week I bought my truck new in 99. It helps 'sweep' debris up a bit that might go under the truck. No big deal. Yank it off. Your truck will look taller....lol

Yea that lip down there, not really a big deal to lose it. I had to cut the one on my 00 Explorer to clear my tires. I ended up ripping the whole thing off because it looked dumb being partially cut on the ends.

His valance is a single piece one, not like the one they had in 98-00 that was a 2 part one.
So u need a good blade or a small grinder and a steady hand to cut it off.

Oh, it looks like it is detachable in the photo. Just trim it off or get another style valance...better yet...get a real bumper, Bro!!!!!

all the 2wd valances for that bumper type are the same. they all have the skirt below.
its actually there to cover the Susp parts lol
the 4wd valance(like mine) doesnt have that, but you need to mod it to fit your bumper or get a 4wd bumper.

Ide make myself a bumper if I wasnt lacking the time, money, a decent welder, and time to actually use it for more than sagging my front end.

just cut the lip and make it look nice and purdy by painting it with some spray paint

Hell on the 93-97s its just bolted up there. I tore mine off when I put on my front D-rings.
