Who wrecked their Ranger Edge V8 swap?

Humour me: Picture 5 - what are the mounts way under the bumper?

Dent in tailgate...not that serious though. Issues going to inspection because the engine is older than the body (and maybe no cats)?
Sounds like you're thinking along the same lines as I was.

Given the mounts peaking out below the bumper I question if it actually has much frame damage. Possibly just bumper damage and busted the grill.

How much of the decision to write it off was decided based on modifications? How much did someone push of it to be totaled knowing that it is an illegal swap that can't possibly pass a state/federal inspections?

Ok, it could pass inspections if the right donor was used and kept all emissions equipment, but the chances of that are somewhat slim. 2001 was last year for 5.0L V8 Explorer, and for it to be legal the donor engine has to be same year model or newer. It's definitely got a modified exhaust considering that it's running duals, and a CAT delete (atleast rears) is a pretty common modification. Even if all of the stuff was right, it would be a fight in states that care about emissions inspections.

Those aren't the frame horns showing. They're some other type of light duty bracket.

Yes, but...

Considering the color, they appear to be factory installed brackets and likely attached to the frame.

Someone had a can of red spray paint. Check the top passenger side of the core support and radiator, plus the air box.

Ok, maybe not factory. Given the location, still likely attached to the frame. Still suggests to me that there's not much frame damage.

If that bumper were attached to the factory bumper brackets (plates welded across frame horns), I'd be wondering if those are what is damaged or maybe separated from the frame.

I was thinking they only bolted the bumper to frame using the top bolts.

I'll add...

Or the knock off AOR bumper just bent or pulled away from the lower bolts.

odds are that engine is ill or the owner was in a bind. worth a shot....even a wounded 302 will likely make it back to detroit...

i promise you, i would go there and drive that thing home if you buy it for me :poop:

...i wouldnt even fix the bumper untill i got a new winch. .... just drive it...

well...you know, till the trans explodes....or the engine. probably transmission first though.

for sure, after the transmission exploded it would get a 6.0 and 4l80..

if someone wanted whats in it, i would rebuild the trans and give that powertrain away to whomever wants it..

i dont fit in regular cabs but damn i like that color..

After looking into the process of buying it from Copart using Autobidmaster, it's a complete clusterF of fees. One could estimate around $1000 to $1500 in fees, then I'd be paying delivery at around $1300. Then there's the process of trying to get Illinois to give it a rebuilt title, which takes far too many trips to the inspection station in Belleville. Totally killed my boner for this truck.

for sure 4-500 ish in base fees plus 7.5-8 percent from what i have seen.

so well over 1 k on 10k

I was doing the math, and using a broker like Autobidmaster or similar, it was more along the lines of $1000 to $1500 in total fees on a $500 winning bid.

yeah....i dont have a membership but know people who do. i was tempted to call this one in.

so far i have been outbid on EVERY vehicle. so i wont spend 250 on the membership.

I looked into it once. Decided the only realistic way to do it was to make friends with someone that has an account, otherwise it isn't worth it to try.
