Who uses Royal Purple?

Amsoil for me,I run strictly amsoil in the diffs and lucas oil additive. I run quaker state 4x4 blend in the motor. I haven't switched to royal purple HOWEVER, a gallon of amsoil gear oil up here goes for around 40 bucks..Royal purple i hear is 50 bucks a gallon, so thats why i don't bother with it heh. the tcase and tranny get the Canadian "Mister Transmission ATF"

RP makes an ATF type of fluid for the tcase and manual tranny? Reason i ask is because i fear putting gear oil in em. Or am i wrong to assume that the manual tranny gets gear oil? I have ATF in it right now :P
Stick with Amsoil, its better than RP and cheaper, RP is more marketing hype than anything, kind of like how Fram filters are the worst made yet best marketed (not saying RP is the worst, just using it as an example).

Atf

All BMW manual transmitions use ATF.

When a high mileage trans starts to get sloppy we would change to 45/70 gear oil.

Please excuse all the BMW references, It's my only field of expertise after wrenching on them for 33 years.

I've always used conventional oil in my stuff. My truck has 190K miles on conventional, doesn't leak engine oil, and doesen't burn any, either, so I don't think I'll be too worried about it. The salt and rust kill before lack of good oil around here.

I have used gear oil on/in engines. On certain applications, it works very well. These engines generally use grease in the mains, and seem to do better in cold weather with conventional gear oil. I personally stay away from detergent/synthetic oil on some hand poured bearings.

i use RP 75w-90 in my engine :D

Are you going to be the third person this week I have to kick in the balls? :buttkick:

Carlos, the RP Ice does work wonders. The Ranger never overheats when everyone else is. And the Blazer never ran so cool after the treatment in the summer.

As for advertisment. Amsoil is best know for that here. I have never seen a ad on TV for RP, just maybe in an auto parts store. And I still get people asking for Amsoil. Can't get it, unless its on the government list to order.

Royal Purple offers a full line of products. They do make just a ATF and a manual transmission fluid (SyncroMax). Also motor oil, gear oil, sprays, and 2-stroke oil. Probably the only line I haven't tried is the diesel oil. But I used these so far.

5w30 (Ranger)
10w30 (Riding Lawn Mower)
SAE30 (Lawn Mower)
SyncroMax (Ranger Transmission)
RP ICE (Ranger & Blazer Coolant)
2-S TWCIII (2-stroke oil)
Max Chain (Motorcycle chain oil)
MaxCycle 10w40 (KLX250s)
75w90 Gear Oil (Blazer Diff)

For people who want any royal purple stuff check on ebay with a guy called racer17k. I buy from the bulk from him. I got a case of motor oil for like 75 shipped. I just got a case of max atf from him as well for 108 shipped. Good deals, a very nice savings over a store purchase for all this. I just changed my oil 2 days ago, had it in there for over 4 months, about 5 and when I drained it I noticed it was discolored. But the viscosity still seemed good. It wasnt like water draining like conventional oil. It wasnt even that nasty black color either. I bet I could of still gotten another 2-3 months out of it. Only reason I changed it was because I changed all but the cam bearings in my motor so I figured id rather be safe then sorry so changed it.

Any channel with car shows (speed, Spike, ect) has RP comercials, never seen an Amsoil one... Both diesel engines (Cummins M11 and 12V 5.9) I've been around that have been swithced to amsoil ran much better, we put it in my fathers M11 in his freightliner, I could tell a very noticeable difference in the smoothness just riding in the passenger seat , MUCH smoother and and would pull MUCH farther up grades before getting hot enough to engage the clutch fan. And also used it in my friends dodge cummins, smoother, quieter and about 0.5-1 MPG increase.

Mobile 1 is very good too, havn't changed my oil in well over a year, I just add a quart every 3-4 weeks because it burns it, cost comes out about the same for me, I just buy the 5 quart jug at walmart for $20. And I change the filter every 5k.

You are right. I have seen RP ads on like Trucks or Hot Rod. But never really a TV ad by itself.

It would seem in my area. Diesel truck owners pefer the Amsoil over RP. And performance builders use RP over Amsoil. Go figure. I use it, because I never had the 2.3L run so dang smooth. I just don't trust the whole 12k mile change, or Amsoil never needing a change thing. I go 5k miles and its time for a full change.

right now my truck has Castrol syntec (4 quarts) and one quart of Lucas synthetic stybilizer in it. I have close to 5k on this oil/filter change and the oil is stil clear, albeit it is starting to draken, but it is still clear. I just checked it over the weekend and oil was still up to the full line and I could see the hash marks between the add and full lines.

I did not however know that Fram filters are junk. what makes them so bad? what would be the better brand then? I am currently using the Fram toughguard filter, but might have to change if these are so horrible. Although I have never had any problems with them and a bunch of people I know all use them with no problems.

Right on :icon_thumby: May want to test your oil, you'd be suprised at how long its good for, one member of B2.org had his synthectic (castrol I think?) tested after 10K in his 2.9 and it was still good to keep using.

And Black03, the toughgaurd is the only acceptable filter from Fram, but WIX, Purolator and motorcraft filters are much higher quality for about the same price. Frams have stamped steel bypass springs, carboard endaps instead of metal, ect, there are much better filters for the moeny.

I do get it tested by Black Stone Labs. 5k miles seems to be best to do the full change. TBN drop to around 3 and Flash point drops to it critial point. I can post it later, if you want? I got two reports and will be doing a third when the Ranger hits 110K miles.
