Ok, I have tried some additives to the fuel and still seem to have an idle that is not the way I want it. So I have convinced myself to get my injectors cleaned and was wondering who I should use for this service?

I can send them off and wait a few days if need be. I could also get some junkyard ones and have those service instead.

this is for a 1998 b2500 2.5L 196k truck

Well, for one, that's not exactly how injector cleaning works. Second, what exactly is the idle doing that you don't like. Very rarely is a funky idle related to injectors. It's far more common for you to need a fuel filter or a new IAC.

Also, I can tell you how to build yourself a home injector cleaner.

I was going to have mine shipped out and cleaned by www.witchhunter.com to try and improve my idle...got the prices and it would've been about $75 bucks total to have them shipped out and cleaned. Found a brand new motorcraft set on ebay for $100 so I just installed them instead and didn't have to be without my truck. Go figure hardly any difference in the idle.

was at the local shop looking for what i thought was a vacuum leek and he pulled out this little tester thing that shows when the injector fires. Well one of them is not firing 100%. He said it prob just dirty and needs cleaning or could be messed up and need replacing

I have a new IAC and fuel filter has been changed recently. This is more or less for my 200k tune up... putting new plugs/wires oil/filters and a few other things and thinking while I am at it why not take them out and get them cleaned.

Ok, then yeah, its a good bet you need an injector cleaning.

Do tell about building an injector cleaner or better yet with your knowledge maby an article in the tech section. :icon_thumby:

If it is ELECTRICALLY "not firing" cleaning won't do jack schitt.

It's either a bad coil inside the injector (it's phucked) or you have a bad wire in the injector harness.

Injectors are almost never the issue when you have an idle quality problem.

You know what is "always" the issue? Spark.

Corrosion inside one of the coil towers (common)
Bad spark wire (very common)
Some gimicky spark plug that is a POS that doesn't phucking
work (extreemly common)

The fancier the spark plug (Split fire, Bosch Plus-4, etc) the more I believe that the person who buys them should use them as a butt plug instead of sticking them in their engine

what do I run? Motorcraft.

Double platinums because it reduces the replacement interval.

My idle was kind of rough so I replaced my coil pack and spark plug a few days ago. I went with the Screamin Demon coil pack and Motorcraft plugs gaped to .065". I honestly wasnt really expecting too much of a difference but I was pretty surprised when i noticed the idle really smoothed out on it.

Will do just as soon as I figure out the one last little detail. It has to be pressurized to keep up the proper pressure. As soon as I figure out what to use for a container that I can thread an air fitting it, I'll do it.

I agree, I have a set of autolite plugs and new wires ready to go on. I just feel I should clean the injectors. I never put any injector cleaner in my tank and I buy the cheapest gas I can find and more then once have had some crappy gas. It is 200k i just feel like its time.

i agree, do a tune up, (plugs, wires and coil pack) along with checking for vacume lines, and checking the IAC. i got told by one of my old teachers who passed on how to make a "homemade cleaner" get a waterbottle, pour half ATF in it and half break fluid; shake it real well. pour it into your tank, it will smoke like a SOB but it will be ok after a tank of gas. i did it once and it worked great on my 89. i got better power, and smoother idle. im not saying its always a good thing to do that but i never had a issue.

this stuff works just as good, 1/2 in your tank with fuel (i like 95 octane when i did it) put the other 1/2 in your oil.

I'd be careful with that ATF/Brake Fluid mix. I'd probably change the oil right after using that stuff because one of the main active ingredients of brake fluid is acetone. Acetone is also the stuff in non-chlorinated brake clean that breaks down the oil.

true very true. i never had a issue though:icon_confused:

I'm not arguing with success. I'm just saying that it might be wise to use something else on a higher mileage engine with possibly worn out rings. More of it will get past and into the oil that way.
