Looking for info from people who have actualy done the swap. I am wanting info about any problems you have run into after swapping, and driving the new set up.

Any info about things you would have done differently now that you have done it. as in was the c4 a better choice than ald4.

How has the swap affected your gas milage, and do you use the rig as a DD or just strip/stop light bingo.

thanks

I'm nearing this swap as well and also would like to know what the swap went like, and what hang-ups you ran into during the swap.

I have the rebuilt C4 and the V6 bellhousing and will be buying the C4 to 1350 adapter very soon.

Any info you all can provide will be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can tell the only guys using this setup behind 4.0L's are ones that race or crawl. The torque converter lockup is the issue with a DD setup.

PM Totalled. He did a C5 swap on his explorer that was a DD then swaped it out for the M5OD 5 speed manual. This was after having a custom torque Converter made.

I dunno... Myself, I have thought of this idea many times before. Simply because of the transfer cases that become available running a C4. Having owned a few 2.8 powered vehicles (well built screamers) with C4's, they are durable... but I popped both of them (the transmissions) without trying too hard. For some reason, they don't take too kindly to being shifted from first to second at around 7500 rpm or higher. It was after the second one going that I swapped to a 4spd. The parts are available to build one for a V6 engine (bell housing and internals for a C4 behind a C4) from https://www.wittrans.com/default.aspx .

Thanks guys ... decided on a different path ... Bought a 1978 Pinto for $300. that is in nice condition (ermm needs work) but is in workable condition (garage parked for 20 years) will keep the al4d in ranger and just use the efforts that i was going to do the summer tranny fix/swap and will just get the 2.8 going in this car.

cheers
