seems to me that dodge got it first, they released it in 97 while ford in 98
the sport versions have even more resemble between both

I like the Ranger better, lol

The only thing they really have in common is the solid amber light running the full length of the headlight. Second generation Rangers have the amber in the same places (below and to the outside of the headlight) and they came out in '89.

The shape of the Ranger headlights has been a Ford staple since the early 90's (foxbody Mustang, crown vic, tempo...) and first came onto the scene in '93 for the Ranger's.

Well, I sure wouldn't mind a stock V8 in a Ranger......

Not gonna happen. Ford is too stupid in that particular sense. They will give us what we want unless it goes against the lawmakers green earth plans. Dodge had that front end in 97 but they were box before that. The ranger lost the box in 93. The pic you showed is a mild variation of what began in 1993. Ford had it first.

yeah the dakotas cab looks to low, the amber light and maybe a lil hint on the grille, a sport dakota was parked side 2 side witrh my ranger the other day-white too, and it had a bit of resemble to it.
i knew the 89-92 ranger had the same light arrangement than the 98-00
so basically ford had it first lol

I will have to lower my self one time and say that the Dakota SRT10 with the 360 was the nutz. The minds at ford have been slakcing for way too long. I always wondered why we cant apply honda principals to our v-6's and v-8's. A 5.4l dohc ranger would be the shiznit. Navi motor here I come.

ford seems to be loyal to the american recepie: big engine and lots of gas
they dont care about multivalve arrangements, the 01+ 2.3 ranger has a dohc 16v cuz its a mazda engine.
reliability seems to be better on a sohc 8 valve engine than a 16v multi to me<---just my experience

That was the R/T.

The only SRT-10 pickup was the Ram, and it had the Viper V-10. The number after SRT is the number of cylinders (Neon SRT-4, Challenger SRT-8, Ram SRT-10 for example)

Not entirely true, they have many engines with either 3 or 4 valves per cylinder. Really, they seem to be pretty fond of sticking a turbo or supercharger on about anything to wake it up for a higher perfomance version.

they semi resemble each other but not really. the dodge had(still has) the really ugly, long, skinny, raised "dick" front

You sure about the dakota R/t and not SRT? I was selling vehicles at automax and had one one the lot. They came with 10" wheels(wide) and a manual as well. I thought the R/T and SS/T were the fullsize verisons.

Either way, Fords multivalves are as reliable as it gets. How many navi motors you here being blowed up? How many cobra motors you hear about being blowed up without 40+lbs of boost? All teh Dohc's Ive experience have outlasted my Sohc's and pushrod motors. Mazda may have produced the ranger motors, But I dont believe they produced the sohc 2.3 for hte mustang from 85-93. In 95 I believe was the 4 valve boss 5.0 ( I could be mistaken it'sbeen so long. And in 2000 was a dohc 351 for the cobra R. All badass reliable motors.

X2........................................there are interesting similarities now that you point it out.....:icon_confused:

Yes, but the 2009 Rangers IIRC have no ****ing headroom for us tall guys....looks great but I can't own one due to the lack of headroom!

they did the 01+ 2.3 not the older ones
my exp with multi valve engine comes from a toyota 1.5, it had a short life(97 tercel)
compared to my moms 2.3(93 ranger)
multi valve engines dont suck, they good, even better sometimes than sohc.
now back on topic... the new dakota is way uglier than this one lol, looks like an ant-eater
