Who else here on the ranger station loves their ranger ?

In regard to the overdrive button, I turn it off as soon as the truck is running. And that's with 4.10 gears. Leave it off unless I hit the highway or a speed limit over 50 mph. I love the peppiness of it with the OD off. Don't have to wait for that danged delay while the stupid computer analyzes if it's okay to downshift it.

I do the same in my 2004 Lightning, and it is also retrofitted with 4.10 gears.

And yes, I do love my Lightning way more than my Ranger. But the Ranger serves a purpose. It allows the Lightning to always be spotlessly clean, 24/7/365.

I do similar with my manual. I don't put it in 5th until I hit 55 mph, unless I'm towing. Then it's going to depend on the terrain and the speed limit on the highway or interstate. 70 mph is to fast to stay in 4th but 5th can be too tall for certain hills.

Well, 4.10 gears totally changed how my 3.0 auto works. And I love the change. It's actually faster on top-end than it was with 3.73's. And going up hills, if it is in OD, it stays in OD, anything faster than 42 mph. I got in the OD OFF habit with 3.73's in both my trucks. It's likely not necessary any longer. But it's just a habit developed over many years of owning them.

The 2011 definitely needs a regear. I'm sure it will take some geting used to the new shift points when it happens. Oversized tires and 3.73 gears are not a good combination in general and less so when towing.

At 70 I am wishing for 6th lol...

Yeah, 3 grand is a bit high. I only shift there of I'm merging into traffic or needing some more grunt for something else.

That is cruising in 5th...

I understood. If I gear mine the way I want, I think I may be in the same boat. With the terrain around here, I don't think I have a choice. 4.10 will put me nack where I was and they don't make 4.30 or similar for my front axle. So, 4.56 it is. At least I'll have some flex room of I bump up to 32" tires later, which I might.

I wonder if my OD is deeper than yours, I have 3.73's and 31's.

It might be. I don't have the ratios off hand. I want to say 5th is 0.75???? It's the HD model of the MO5. So, the ratios are a little different.

Mine is an R2 so its heavier yet, I think 5th is like .80

I just looked it up in the tech section, .79. 4.30 would be the ideal differential ratio for my setup but they only make them for the 8.8. It goes from 4.10 to 4.56 for the D35SLA.

I have an 2013 f-150 and a 1991 ranger, I perfer to drive the ranger because of the smaller cab where I can reach things more easily. I have doing some minor modifications to it, built my own exhaust from the cat back, used the tail pipe off the f-150, since I installed Magna-Flow on the 150. Also removed orginal seats and installed bucket seats for an explorer, boy are they comfortable. working to swap out open diff to limited slip, plus some other small items, need to installed new lights that Ranger 85 4x4 got me for Xmas, overhead console I got from the junkyard. This is the second Ranger that I have owned, love it greatly.
I've done the same or similar: twin exhausts, bucket seats, and a Torsen limited slip. I really enjoy those improvements

I don't Put mine in 5th until I hit 70+, downhill with a tailwind on ice.
