Whine in the right front Help

I have a 99 ranger 4x4 3.0 I have ahigh pitched whine in the right front any ideas? I have checked belts, puleys and anything else I can think of.

just to define right front, (some get it easily confused.... I have on more than on e occasion...)


right front is the passenger side of the vehicle.


unless the alternator is beginning to fail, either load wise(electrical) or bearings(mechanical) then perhaps the purge canister has a leak....

Yep right front is the passenger side. I can not find where it is coming from and the whine increases with the RPM's.

Does it do it with the drive belt off?

I am not sure I have not tried that. I will do it when I get some time and let you know.

I've had it too, blown bearing in the alternator.

I'm guessing possibly it's the bearings in the alternator like someone else said. I know when mine failed because of the bearings it made that sound. Could also be your tensioner going bad. Atleast based off my experience because sometimes with mine it sounds like the pitch is coming from that area when really i know it's the tensioner. Hope that helps. Just going off my experience with mine. I have went through 3 or 4 alternators and 2 tensioners on my 97 so i have been around the block with the whine issue.

My 4.0 made a very strange loud sound from the air filter area when the iac valve went out,,took forever to figure that out. Not sure if that's your problem but worth a look.
