Hi, I'm looking for a Ranger on the East Coast that does not have the PATS anti theft security system. I had an '07 where the PATS malfunction and ended up junking it. Can someone please tell me which years Rangers do not have this system? I think pre '98 all, '98-'01 4 cylinder only, and '05s don't have it. But I am not sure on these years. Thanks!

I think ot started in Rangers, as an option in 96 or 97. 99 and newer you can just assume it has PATS or some similar security aystem.

Pretty sure it’s 98+ that have PATS. I’ve heard that 98/99 4-cyl didn’t have it. Think it was around 05 that it got integrated into the cluster and became a cluster F to deal with. 97 and older had better off-road suspension and 98+ has better on-road suspension.

surprised nobody steered you towards the tech article...

from what I understand 97+ is just about a guarantee all ford. Find it hard to believe you are seeing anything that says 05

My 97 does not have PATS, but does have and antitheft system in it. from what I understand, 98 and 99 (maybe even 2000) had PATS for the V6 Rangers but not the 4 cylinders. I read somewhere that 2005 does not have PATS at all due to some issue that year.

I was kind of skeptical of this 05 not having, so I did the easiest thing, download the manual and read it... no mention of anti-theft, nothing in the section of keys (the '07 in family has a page on adding a anti-theft key yourself), etc - nothing.... over on explorer forum and ford-trucks they both concur. Sounds like 2004 was the last year of PATS 1 and 2005 was the first year of PATS 2 ('S' versus 'SA' stamped keys). So I have to concur, Ford skipped the Ranger initially that first year of PATS 2 and 2005 did not... that would be the year to have if you want a newer truck without the headache that PATS can occasionally induce.
