Which type of programmer

I am at my last couple steps to enjoying the 5.0 power. I would like to know which programmer/Tuner that can be used to take off pats on a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer.
Can a Ford Explorer SCT be used? The egines are basically the same

SCT hands down. You need a Ford v8 tuned, if the explorer tuned is for a 6, it won't work
