well i got a full dana 35 ttb and 8.8 with the gears and lockers sett up ready to go in which ever i decide to build and i'm in the middle of a 4.0 swap in the ranger

Well if that's the case, then pretty much decide which body you like more. You'd have more space in the Explorer than in the Ranger.

In terms of approach/departure angle, both are fairly similar. If you're putting the same running gear in either one, then it's pretty much a wash.

Which rig do you like to look at more?

Well since you're doing the 4.0 swap in the ranger, and have the D35&8.8 already set aside with lockers, I'd build the Ranger. The Exploder would made a more comfortable DD, in my opinion.

This guy has the right idea. And body panels are much easier to repalce after denting on a ranger then on an explorer....

Plus, you would end up with two vehicles with very similar drivetrains, makes it easy to keep commonly needed parts around.

they aren't building rangers anymore. 1st gen trucks are getting more and more rare, and parts for them more expensive. if yours has a nice body on it, i'd do all i could to preserve it. mine is a dd and light trail truck and that is what i bought it for. there are tons of xploders around for sure. those body parts will be much easier to get for replacements. and as the drivetrains will be similar enough those parts should be easy enough to get. just my $.02.

the 1st gen trucks are still redic cheap to get body panels for, versus a exploder, id much rather change a whole bed side on a truck then do a quarter panel on a esploder after i bounce off a tree. and i would even venture as far as saying the 1st gen rangers have held up better rust wise then the exploders around my way anyways lol

id do the ranger in a hearbeat/esploder is the dd

I say build the explorer that already has the 35 and 8.8 the 31 spline will be a big advantage. And put the other 35 and 8.8 with lockers in the DD just so you have a backup wheeling rig. Put all your efforts into the expo so you can take friends with you too, but do some minor building on the 84 in case you decide to 'run around' after work a lil. or have to push through the snow to work.

Build the ranger so you DON'T have to more then 1 friend wheelin, making you do stupid crap you wouldn't otherwise do.

Use the explorer for a DD and to haul around friends doin normal crap, where risking life/limb and truck isn't usually an issue.
