hey guys. i know where i can get an 84 ford ranger 2.2 diesel nonturbo, 4spd, 4x4, reg cab short bed for $100. shes around an hour away from me. hasnt been going in around 10 years. ive read about these and they only have 59HP!!!! which sucks ass. but it is standard which i like.

but just across the road from my garage, is an 87 ranger 2.9 4x4 rebuilt a4ld, new windshield, starter, gas tank, skid plates, exhaust, brakes. and shes $200.

im really torn between the 2, im thinking the 87 2.9 as they at least have a little bit of power. but shes 100 dollars more, but shes only across the road. and she has been going a couple years ago whereas the diesel hasnt been going in 10 years or more. and i can do a nice bit of work with a 2.9 but i know nothing about the little diesel.

whats your guys opinoins
thanks

no i have 8 trucks as it is, i have to sell one just to get the other. and im really really low on cash. i gotta save up to be broke

you could probably sell one of your rides for the 300

i can sell the 79 for $400.. but shes my baby that would probably be the last one i would sell

the diesel is cool man, gets really good mileage and its kinda rare. if u got 4x4 already a nice diesel would be good. that engine has one of the most beautiful sounds ever man

Get the 2.9. The diesel has NO balls, all of it's parts are made from 100% unobtainium, AND it hasn't run for 10 years (there's a good chance it'll need some unobtainable parts)

For $100 more, you get a pretty good v6 with easy to find parts and decent power, a new trans worth at LEAST $700 along with hundreds of dollars worth of other new parts.

Really, the choice is obvious.

yea theres more parts on the v6 he said theres about 1900 including the labor into her

id buy both, you could probly sell one for more that u bought it with. hmm, 200$ for a rebuilt 4x4 2.9. i almost spent 200 for a new front bumper, backwindow, tailgate panel, passenger door and driver fender at pick n pull. if u made the diesel a daily driver, ud probly save alot on fuel and the truck will pay for its self, if its workin that is. any chance of some pics?

buy the diesel, but only if it starts and runs! and I don't mean on ether:icon_rofl:

the 2.2 is a Perkins built in Japan for Mazda, it is built to run forever and never wear out. IF it is serviced like a diesel! it has a cast iron head and a gear driven cam instead of a chain or belt:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:
you won't have any power but in the summer you can buy your fuel at the grocery store:headbang: and all the local cats and dogs will lick your tailpipe.

disclaimer:
only attempt that above 20 degrees C, like mid July to Mid August on the rock eh?

id kill to buy a diesel for 100$ so what if its only 59 hp, its cheap on fuel! it will pay for its self when they jack the fuel prices up cause of the gulf oil spill

i bought the v6 yesterday and its an 86.

i probably will buy the diesel someday
