So I'm wanting to do a tune up in my ranger and I've heard all sorts of stories on which plugs and wires are better or worse. I have a 1999 3.0, 113,000 miles, flex fuel, auto trans, factory tow package if any of that stuff matters. But I've heard people say top of the line plugs suck and certain ones run better than others. Without knowing if these have ever been done I want to do it for good measure. So any input would be helpful. I'd hate to get new plugs and wires and find out people had issues with them or they didn't last. Truck has 113,000 miles on it and I'd like to get another 100,000 out of it. Thanks.

Motorcraft double platinum plugs all the way.

Motorcraft wires are good, BWD/Autolite/CQ premiums are good alternatives.

Spark plugs should not be a 100,000 mile service interval. I would not be letting them go much past 50K, even on double platinums.

I second this, can’t go wrong with motorcraft plugs and wires

Same. Motorcraft plugs and wires all the way.

I always tell people that for ignition components, brakes, and filters, particularly oil and fuel filters, that OEM is the best, and if it isn't available try to get one made by the OE supplier.

I'd probably put Motorcraft or Autolite platinums in it simply because they last longer. I don't use copper plugs anymore unless I have to because they don't last but on the other end, double platinum/iridium/etc are way overpriced and don't give you any more bang for your buck.

I don't have a preference on wires - I honestly don't ever replace them unless they're physically damaged. Lots of 20+ year old Motorcraft wires in my fleet and no issues.

We just had a tractor come in with a piece of fencing wire for a coil wire... don't bump that accidentally...

I have platinum Motorcraft plugs and Ford Racing wires on my 5.0, for a dd I doubt the pretty blue plug wires would be worth it (and I don't know if they are even available)

Call local Ford Dealer parts dept. ask when the next "tune up sale" will be, if there is more than one Ford dealer call them all.

On sale at Ford I get the motorcraft wires and spark plugs for the same or less than discount brands at local parts store
And Ford Parts guy may even offer them at sale price even if there is no sale going on, it is FREE to call
