Which Plug and Where?

Hey guys,

I did a 4.0 to 4.0 swap a while back and the motor runs fine. When i pulled the old motor and put the new one in, I ran into some check engine light issues. I realized that I plugged the Oxygen sensors in to whichever connector I reached first. I am wondering if I might have crossed the connections. Maybe I plugged the passenger side sensor into the driverside plug kind of deal. Has anyone had experience with this? Can anyone tell me which connector on the harness should go to which sensor? When I put the motor in, the connections for each plug were right next to eachother and I really couldnt tell which one went to which plug. Any info or even a diagram would be great.

Thanks

i think the o2 sensor is a unique plug and nothing else will plug into it if you mixed right and left i dont think the comp is smart enough to care... just swap em if you think its a big deal

We did the same thing on our explorer(got the O2s crossed)If you did you will know it.Ours ran horrible which is common from what ford told us when they get crossed. It really didnt make sense to me but they have to be plugged into the proper side.Ours ran rich and of course threw out alot of black smoke because of it.When we swapped sides it went away just like that!

If you have the plugs crossed, the engine will initially run OK, but after a while will have one bank go lean while the other bank goes rich - the CEL light will soon follow. The cycle will repeat itself everytime the engine is shut off and restarted.

I've seen it happen more than a few times - when it does, the engine runs pretty badly. If yours is running good, but still throwing a CEL, then maybe it's something else - pull the codes and see............

Thanks guys, i havent had a chance to check it out. The truck runs pretty good. But the check engine light does keep coming on from time to time. It seems like it is running rich. It idles fine but i do throw alot of exhaust out and i can smell the fuel in it. I am going to reach in there this week and try to swap the connectors over and see if it helps. I will let you all know what happens.

hey ya let us all know how that goes... i just had my engine rebuilt and when i put it in i think i got everything in right but i think it is running really rich and runs nasty.. wonder if we might have the same thing goin on...
