A 2000-2004 dodge dakota quad cab 4.7 v8 4wd automatic

or a

2001 - 2003 ford f-150 super crew 5.4 v8 4wd 5 speed automatic

I want to get either one because i have never owned a 4 door truck yet if i get the f-150 it will be my 4th f-150 that i have owned and my first dakota :)

If you have already owned Ford trucks then try the Dodge truck
I would have a look at Dodge Dakota forums to see what's what with the different models and years first

I owned a few GM and Dodge trucks over the years, which made me a Ford truck guy, everyone should make their own informed choice based on real experience

That is what i was thinking that i have already owned 3 f-150s and that it would be fun and new for me to try the dodge truck :)
I will look on the dodge dakota forums and see what different years i want on my dakota model.

Is gm chevy i don't remember ? how did you like your dodge trucks what models were they ? how do you like being a ford guy ? where you born around dodge ?

Yes, GM and Chevrolet are the same company, some say GMC trucks are better than Chevy trucks, that was never my experience, they were both about the same as far as drive-ability and repairs
Kind of like Ford and Mercury cars, lol

GMC back in the old days was known more as building the medium and heavy trucks, chevy for consumer grade stuff.

Nowadays GMCs are more luxurious overpriced chevys with better looking bodies.

my dad had really bad luck with a dodge dakota, i think it was around a 98 model. it was an extended cab with the v6 and it got terrible gas mileage and was always breaking down.

on the other hand, my brother in law had a 94ish dodge dakota extended cab that wouldn't die. he jumped that truck, raced it light to light, took it to the beach and would race in the shallow water along the edge of the hard sand and it never quit.

and a buddy here at work had a crew cab that is an early 2k with a 360 v8 (i believe) in it that has 300k+ miles and he hauls hay with it for his ranch. he said hte transmission finally started slipping though so he had it up for sale.

i liked the old dodge rams from the late 80s, those square nosed ones. that 318 was a decent engine

Dodge always built good engines. But the rest of the truck...

yup. both of the newer dodges my stepdad owned had great engines/transmissions but horrible everything else

one cool thing on the 94 long bed extended cab he had is that when i popped the hood to see the "new" engine in the new body style truck, all the fuel stuff said holley. the intake, the rails, the throttle body all said holley. and my stepdad doesn't mod vehicles so i know it was stock. i was impressed with that and think that is why that 360 ran the way it did. he bought it brand new from the local dodge place and they took his pic and he in their calendar for buying it. maybe it was the first of that body style in town, who knows, but he had that picture up for a while

Not a Dodge 4.7 v8, those engines are complete piles of junk. The earlier Dakotas woth the 3.9 v6 or 5.2, and 5.9 V8s were excellent engines. A 5.9 V8 4 door Dakota was only available for one year and that was 2000 so if you find one of those get it. The 01 and newer 4 door V8s were all 4.7s which I would avoid.

I had a 98 Dakota 3.9 v6 5 speed 4x4 that my brother now has and it has been an excellent truck. Yes the 3.9 makes less power than the 4.0 SOHC but it gets the same fuel milage and is far more reliable, more simple and easier to work on. Also if you want to do a V8 swap the 5.2 or 5.9 Magnum literally bolts right in place of the 3.9. Not sure why Ford had to have so many varieties of V8s and V6s in the 90s and when GM and Dodge were able to keep it simple and use one platform.

Can I vote neither? You couldn't give me one of those years of both the F150 and the dakota. I will never own a 5.4 triton F150 and Those years of Dakotas are just junk in my experience.

My .02 cents go buy a 2009? or newer F150 with a 5.0 and be done with it. I have a 2012 with the 3.5 and its been a great truck. Wish it was the 5.0 but ecoboost has been good to us.

The 2V 5.4s were great engines I have seen plenty with over 300K on them that still run great.
