I think the gen3 trucks just look goofy, no matter what grill is installed.

But neither one really looks better than the other.

The newer style has a vertical part centered on the oval too (your pic threw me off)

Pretty close, I might lean more towards the earlier one but I wouldn't bother to switch the later one to the earlier one.

One thing to consider if you are not sure which way to go is; the newer style is easier to clean.

The one on the right. The other one isn't bad, either.

My vote is the first. Without the vertical bars the black areas appear squeezed in.

I forgot to ask ... which do YOU like?

I have the 94 myself and in 95 they changed the grill, I like the 93-94 style better than the newer because the newer reminds me of the Dodge grills. As a reference look at a 98 dodge ram's grill and then look at the 95 and newer grill and tell me they do not look similar. I painted the inner section of the 94 to make it look thinner but never cared for the full chrome grill. that is a personal opinion. I like the chrome top strip and a darker grill.

EDIT: kid chose the silver for the grill so that is what it got painted.

I have grown to like the newer style grille. This is an aftermarket all chrome grille, I painted the inner part and center support bar semi gloss black to make it look better. It blends in with the mesh grille I have on there that is mounted to the header panel I made 20 years ago. It has more of a clean look, sorta like the splash grille. Was getting a little tired of the prison bar look of that 94 grille. Already sold the 2 peices of my old grille. I like the one piece grille better.

I loved my green 93, not only my favorite truck but favorite overall vehicle and the vehicle Ive owned the longest.

I prefer the one on the left. The one on the right looks like it belongs on a car.

^ for that reason, I like the one on the right. There's no vertical elements to the design of that gen ranger. It matches the body lines better.
The ranger is a minimalist truck, the minimalist grill fits. <smokes long cigarette, wears black beret>
