which engine should i use???

I have a 86 4x ranger and have two engines with computers to choose from in which to install . They are both 1993 as I want to make it smoggable the first is a 351 from a first Gen lightening and the second is a 5.0 ho from a mustang. What would make for the better conversion?

The 351 would be cool. The only real difference as far as the swap is concerned is fitting headers to the 351.

The Lightning 351w whould be a cool swap. If you can get a MAFS system for it put the Ford Racing F-cam in the engine and do some light porting in the exhaust to smooth out roof and walls in the ports. Find some 1 5/8" long tube headers and run a 90mm MAF with a 70mm T-body and that truck will scream and still go thru emissions.

More money, more problems. With the 5.0 you could get by with the smaller rear end and less cooling, but ya, a 351 in anything is cool.

Thanks for the input I'm leaning towards the 351 cause it is in my possession plus I know it only had 120k cause I pulled it. The 5.0 would be a trade for the 351 so o Just wanted to know how bad the install would be. I'm just think a svt ranger would be cool.

351 all the way! That would be one hell of an engine in a ranger. Lightning motors can scream if done up right.
