which carb do you guys use on your v8's for power and reliability?

ive always used edelbrocks, but ive been told holley is better.

i plan on using mine daily, and im looking at about 320 crank horse power.

my mods will be, lunati 07101 cam, roller timing chain, heads milled 0.010, screw in studs, guide plates, roller tipped rockers, edelbrock perfromer eps intake, msd disty, and ignition, full length 1 5/8 headers feeding a 2 1/2 flowmaster exhaust.

my engine stock is 250 horse, so i think ill be in the ball park of 320-350 when im done.

I voted edelbrock from experience, but it depends on what power your looking for. For Drag race/balls out id say holley for sure.
I've used edelbrock performers for years, but I think next carb I buy I'd try the holley truck avenger.

i think ill just stick with what i know, and for an everyday driver, the 1406 is set 2% leaner than most carbs for economy. i think thats the ticket.

Edelbrock.

I can never get a holley to stay in tune.

I have run a few of each and I have found that Holly's tend to have much better mid-top end power and they need a check up every once in a while to stay in tune. Edelbrock's don't seam to have as much mid-top end power but you tune it once and never look at it again.

I've had awfull luck tuning Holleys....... If you just want a fuel dumper for flat out go with holley.

But if you want a street/strip or dd I'd go edelbrock. 700-750 should do what your after.

I daily drove my drag car.... when my ranger went down to college, till my dad realized I was getting gallons to the mile, and he helped me finance a truck through him.

Holley for the win here.
Many of cars and trucks came with Holleys from the factory and they work great. Holleys are great carbs for fuel milage, performance and every day driving. The problem with Holleys are that people that have used them and had bad luck with them are the ones that didnt know how to tune them.:icon_confused:. I have run Holleys on every car that I have ever had and had great luck with them. I have had a couple of the Weber/Edelbrock carbs and and their tuning kits and they have worked good but they were not easy to tune and they never gave me the best of anything for them. I bought a 79 mustang with a rebuilt 5.0 in it and that car ran good and the guy before me had put a brand new Edelbrock on it. I tuned it with diffrent jets and rods (which was not easy to get right) and it still never gave me the fuel milage and or performance that a stock Holley did after I swaped one on to it. So take it for what its worth if you are great with carbs and know your chit then use a Holley but if you are not the best then use a Weber/Edelbrock carb and just be happy with what you have.:D

700-750???

im not looking any bigger than a 650.

u must be doing a pretty mild 350 build...... 750 was sweet perfection on mine... bored, cammed, intake, headers, double hump ported heads....

350 horse is mild to me.

cam, heads milled .010, intake, carb, headers, exhaust.

a 650 would be more than enough for me. im gonna try a 600 cause im gonna daily drive this, and if its not big enough, then ill get a 650.

holley for performance. and autolite 4100 for reliability/no bs.

edelbrock is an intake manifold company. their carbs are simply re-badged carter afb's and i cant stand them. complete crap imo.

i have a holley 600 dp on my maverick with a mildly built 302, i love it, i have a eldebrock on my 77 f150 4x4 i hate it, its nice you dont have to retune it but when you drive it and let it sit for about 30 mins the fuel in the bowl boils over into the intake once the engine is shut down, i know of 4 other people who have the same problem as me, my maverick does not have this problem i say go holley!:icon_thumby:

WELL, since i will be daily driving the truck for a while im going to run an edelbrock thunder series avs 650 carb.

i just never had much luck with a holley. but it could have just been bad carbs.

ive always loved my edelbrocks. this poll was more of a feeler than anything.

i appreciate all the input from you guys.
