I have a really sharp looking 1998 4x4 ranger with a 3.0 The vin code is V. A scrap yard near me has an 99 with 80,000 miles that he wants 750 for (including core) which seems kind of steep to me because I am finding a lot of reman engines for only a few more hundred dollars. Near me there is a 3.0 out of an 95 ranger with 45000 miles for 350, I have my intact engine so would it be possible to put the 95 in my 98? The guy at the scrap yard said I would have to swap over my fuel rail from the 98 to the 99 and everything else would work.

Whats wrong with your 3.0?

Swapping an engine out just for the mere fact of swapping it doesnt make much sense.

Dustin

An Vulcan 3.0 will fit. The farther away in years, the more parts that need to be changed. The '95 will fit, You may have to replace the lower plenum(intake manifold). I would just put the two motors side-by-side and change parts untill the new motor looks just like the one that came out(except cleaner). All the parts bolt on.

Lol yeah I wouldn't just change it for the fun of it, the 3.0 that I got, I bought it for 800, it is an extended cab, 4x4, it is really clean, but one of the rods is literally welded to the crank and is seized up. So if I but this motor I can take everything off mine to make it work?

Yes, the long blocks are the same. Just swap over any accessory parts that are different.

You may need to buy a new synchronizer (the thing that replaced the distributor). That is probably what caused the death of the last motor and it is a problem part so, a new one is just a good idea.

just curious what is the problem that they had with these? I have heard of a few different 3.0's like mine that can take the flex fuel doing the same thing...This is my first ranger I have had, and let me tell you it is a lot more complicated than my I-6 in my wrangler...nothing more simple than a 4bbl carb and a hei distributor....lol

what do I have to do to get rid of the distributor and put the dis. less ignition on? everything looks real similar besides that, the engine is really clean I paid only 300 for it, I rotated the engine and it rotates freely and the engine oil is clean looking
