I Just bought a 2000 Ford Ranger less than a month ago.its got jba headers, flowmaster exhaust,k&n intake, throttle body spacer,i was wondering if maybe its chippped too. Where would i be able to locate that if it was?

in the engine compartment almost dead center there is a large bolted connector. check there, that is the main one i know of.

The chip will be located on the backside of the ECM, or computer.
Yes it is that big connector above the right valve cover on the firewall.
You will need to disconnect the negative terminal on your battery before doing anything with this unit.

Remove connector from ecm. 7/16 socket works for me, likely 12 mm.
Remove two nuts retaining ECM to firewall. 10mm socket works for me.
Pull ECM out of place.

If there is a chip, it will be an attachment noticably protruding from the backside of the unit. If no chip is present, there will be a metal cap over the backside where the chip would be installed.

Some people prefer to use a tuner instead of a chip. A tuner is plugged into the plug under the dash, parameters are changed to suit your needs, then the unit is unplugged and put away for another day.

So just because there is no chip on the ECM does not mean things have not been changed. With the mods you listed I would highly suspect something has been done.

I think it might have been tuned it some kind of way because usually a rev limiter cuts out at 3k rpm right? mine doesnt cut out at all. so what would that mean?

I do not have a tach on mine, but I know it is not cutting out at 3,000 rpm. That is probably near what it cruises at at 70, if my wifes Taurus is any indication. 3,000 is what I could call mid-range. The 3.0 loves to be revved, and is a dog when it is not being revved.

Do you mean while it is in park it cuts out a 3k? That's normal. It should not cut out while in drive at 3k though.

in park or neutral it does not cut out,i installed an aftermarket tach and it doesnt cut out at 3k rpm

Unless there is a wire that can be cut to eliminate the limiter than yes you have had the computer reprogrammed or a chip.

If someone has changed the parameters with a tuner, do they reset to factory when the battery is disconnected?
Thanks
