Where to start - Cruise Control '94 2.3L

clock spring and slip rings are used interchangeably already in this thread, terminology is for sure a problem...ecm pcm computer eec....all the same to me depending on context.

So… I’m moving this to electrical…

Not sure if it is yet, half of the system is vacuum operated. Work has been whooping me pretty good and I haven't even had time to get this inside and start troubleshooting but it's first on my list when I get out of these large projects.

I can move it to the 2.3 section if you would prefer? Either way this thread doesn’t belong in the section for build threads, so I was just trying to keep it tidy.

Sorry I didn't mean for that to sound like a protest, it was not. I was just commenting about the vacuum stuff. I'm fine with it being in electrical if that fits better.

No worries, honestly I wasn’t even thinking about the old vacuum operated cruise control and just went “cruise control should be electrical, click” lol

Well, since vacuum and electrical are combined in the manuals, I reckon that logically fits. I can never decide which sub is the correct one, I've had half of my posts moved for the same reasons. I don't do it on purpose, I actually think about it first. I just choose wrong half of the time heh

It’s sometimes difficult even as a moderator to decide where some posts should go so we just try to do the best we can.

Been a while and though I'd resurrect this since the weather is warming up and I have a little time tomorrow.
With the throttle grabbing as I described in the beginning, I suspected a cruise control ghost. The cruise isn't working, and sometimes the throttle sticks, hitting the clutch always seemed to disconnect it. Well, I think now that was just coincidental. This morning I disconnected the cruise cable from the throttle body and it's still doing it, so something is obviously jus sticking. I disco'd the cable and it is smooth as butter so I figured I'd pull the throttle body this weekend and clean it. HOWEVER... the Ford manual warns not to clean the throttle body due to some coating. A bit f internet searching has me thinking that the coating may be teflon and they worry about that getting stripped. Does anyone know if it is safe to clean this thing with just soap and water or TB cleaner that is safe for teflon? Or is this mysterious coating something else?

I have always just hosed them down with brake clean... That said my old one did stick at idle after sitting overnight.
