Where to run the coax to the firewall?

I'm going to run through the firewall, just to the left of the brake pedal. What is the best way / safest way to get it there?
 
Safest, factory grommet, not the best. Someone else chime in
 
I'm fine with drilling a hole. Just where and how the cable is routed from the rear bumper (where my antenna is mounted) to the firewall
 
Best way is to make a new hole.
First, go to the parts store and get a grommet that will seal for the cable size and is large enough for the end of the cable to pass thru, if it has a pre-installed end.

Second, see how much you can bend the cable without damaging it.
Connect the cable to the back of the radio and run it where it will bend and exit thru the firewall, that's where you will want the hole.

Third, drill a small pilot hole, then check both sides of the firewall for obstructions, for the hole itself but also for the cable passing thru and out to the underside of the truck.

Drill the full size hole for the grommet you have already gotten.

Since you have an auto, go through where the clutch master would.

Unbolt the cover, drill a hole, add a grommet, bolt it back on.
 
I've figured out the placement of the holes, I just need to know the best path from the rear bumper.
 
How do you run it inside the frame rail, if you can't get your hand in it? (I've never had to run through the frame before.)
 
Nope. Your info says your trucks an auto, so there is probably a cable there already.

Although... My previous post may have been wrong, it was specific to 3rd gen trucks.

There should be some sort of block off plate or plug in the firewall where a clutch master cylinder would be if the truck was a manual.

The shifter cable for the auto goes through the same hole that the clutch master mounts in on a manual trans truck. There is no block off plate.

Well that sucks.

Reason #672 why 1st 2nd and 3rd gens are better. They ruined the Ranger in 98.
 
I have these connected to my battery. they are 50A fuses. I have a CB, HAM radio and Lights Wired all with there own fuse but these are to protect any chafing that might happen between the individual fuse and battery.

I have been wanting to put my HAM radio in and my CB in for a some time now but could never find a path for the power and antenna out of the cab.
It would be nice if someone would add a pictorial to the Library of different paths to take for the antenna and power cables.
