I need a 99-01 5.0 with low miles I want it to be nice when im done should i look to into peicing it together instead of finding the doner cause i think i can get nicer stuff that way

youll spend twice as much that way

Depends on what you want to do.

Cleaning up the Explorer stuff gets you nice reliable accessories that are available off the shelf (which is handy if you need one in the middle of nowhere) It will take a little work because 5.0 Explorers are AWD so you you will have to find a different trans and talk the computer into not missing the t-case.

If you are going to use OEM harnesses and fuel system it would be nice to have the whole thing to compare.

ive been looking and everything has 110k plus on it I was looking for an engine and trans with around 60 or 70k and i wanted to use the transfer case that i have because i dont want the awd

IIRC you will need a fullsize t-case to go on the 4R70W.

That is the problem with these things, the newest one is 11 years old. Just keep your feelers out and you one will pop up, it took me a couple years to find a good one that I thought was priced decent.

Somehow I got my posters mixed up and thought you were 2wd...

There's nothing wrong with a 110,000 mile 5.0. It's just been broken in. They'll run to 200K or better if taken care of. I've pulled 88-up 5.0's apart with that many miles and more that still had the crosshatch pattern in the cylinder bores. All they needed were new rod and main bearings, a new oil pump and HD oil pump drive shaft and new gaskets and they're ready for another ten years service.

Im thinking of getting some parts can anyone tell me if I need the wiring harness in the dash of the donor or can I use the one thats in my ranger

The only harness you will need is the engine and transmission harness from the donor, the starter harness and altenator. The donor harness is a plug and play at the 42 pin square plug...
