Where is the stock amplifier?

I'm starting to look into head units and need to see if I have a factory amplifier or not. On a related note. is this actually necessary? What happens if I don't get one? Will the stock amp just not do anything?

also, i would have to imagine there is some way to bypass the factory amp on your own, however that adapter probably just makes it a hell of a lot easier

i thought it was down below the a piller. but i could be 1000% wrong,

how ever if you like running wire you can rerun the speakers to the new HU and not have the amp adapter thing.
 
also look at the pic in the link. the but splice came off hahaha noods lmao
 
Thanks for the replies. Is there some trick to pulling the snaps holding the interior in place for these trucks? I have one of those plastic puller sets from Harbor Freight and it isn't doing jack. I was just pulling on one of the interior pieces, and it broke, leaving the snap intact and in place. While the snaps in my Pathfinder were definitely too weak, these seem a bit overboard.

another very good possibility... the amp may be located in the dash in gen1's...



good luck finding, and yes if you just manually bypass (meaning no electrical work needed) the factory amp you should be fine... just connect new speaker wire all the way from your head unit (cut and cap off all the old wires) to the speakers and you know for sure you have new more reliable electrical (maybe even up the gauge size a bit (10g or something maybe! depending on the future of your system) and you know for sure the factory amp is bypassed, and you have the sense of satisfaction of doing it yourself and the slight knowledge gain.

Could be it was already removed then. The interior was very stripped when I got the truck, and I've stripped it down even more. Currently the driver's seat is the only seat in the truck.

Still looking for tips for those snaps though. Do they need to be twisted a certain way or something? Or is it just a pull harder situation?

they make a tool. but i use a plastic puddy knife. to get under neath them then use the wire strippers. i slide the handle (behind the joint) underneath and pull up. a small wonder bar might work well too.
