Where is the AC compressor on a 2.3L?

Hello guys and some gals,

I got a truck and the radiator says that "the cooling system is not equiped for AC" Hopefully it is not all of the system, but just the radiator. The rebuilt the engine and it runs great though, but the took the power steering out. No biggie.

I have looked at some pictures at rockauto.com of an ac compressor, but I can't find it. I am pretty sure it should be in the front of the engine. Is it located at the bottom? So where is located at, (Is it like literally in the middle of the hood at the very bottom of the engine?)

Thanks in advance

Since the fan shroud says "cooling system is not equipped for a/c," then you DO NOT have a/c compressor. I once owned a 1984 Ranger that said the same thing on the fan shroud and it didn't have a/c compressor.

I suspect he's asking about where it normally would go (maybe he's installing A/C on it).

According to the belt diagram in my '94 manual, it would be above and slightly toward the passengerside of the power steering pump (or above and to the driverside of the water pump pulley).

Do you have a pic of your heater controls?
That should solve the mystery of whether it was originally equipped for AC.

I can take a pic of my AC compressor to show you where it is.
BTW, what year is your truck?
Mine is a 2007 and may be different from earlier models.

THANK YOU so much, There is no doubt I do not have a power steering pump or a ac compressor.

All right follow up question:
What are the parts needed for AC so I can go ahead and stock them up for next summer?
I know compressor, new radiator, what hoses?

You will need a condenser, evaporator, compressor, an accumulator and plumbing to connect all components.

Hey guys,

I was thinking about going to the junk yard this weekend and see what parts I am able to dig out. (I might just buy the compressor new.)
I just need to know what years it would work, or can I just use any 2.3L engine. I have a 1991 2.3L Manual transmision. (Oh yeah it doesn't have to be manual right?) I know these might be stupid questions, but it will get rid of some doubt I have.

Thanks

I would say any 1990-1994 will have all the parts you need that will fit (and will work well with R-134a freon).

Tranny shouldn't matter for the A/C.

Make sure the condenser is clean inside when you pull it, you don't want one contaminated from a compressor failure.
