I don't generally follow the news all that closely, but Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 really has me puzzled. I can't remember the last time I was checking a news story to see if there's any new developments.

What do you guys think? Anyone have a theory?

I think the plane had an electrical fire and the pilots made a turn to fly to an airport, but never made it. I think the crew was overcome by the smoke and the plane kept flying until it ran out of fuel.

Terrorists would have claimed responsibility.

You remember in Thunderball when the bad guys steal an Avro Vulcan, land it in the water, let it sink, put a camo net over it, and then left it to be guarded by sharks.

That is what happened to MH370.

EDIT: Here is the video

that was an episode of Airwolf.

Here's my theory...

The Russians did it.

They needed to draw attention away from their antics and staged this.

Look for other divergent tactics to crop up.

They are masters at manipulation and confusion.

I'm surprised by the lack of radar data and transponder data. A commercial aircraft of that size doesn't just disappear unless it goes down. If it crashed in the ocean, there will be debris floating and the black boxes should be pinging. If it crashed on the many islands or on land, the debris can be harder to spot in a jungle.

Its like a real live version of lost

What is Airwolf? Were those the bad guys from Tale-Spin? I am talking about Thunderball.

Remember the AirFrance flight a few years ago? Out of radar range, just disappeared, took them a week to find any debris, almost two years to find the black boxes (which are orange and cylindrical, go figure that one out), because you have a very large area they can be in and have to get fairly close to them before you even know they are there.

Given that this is an area of the world where we are still finding planes from WWII and Vietnam I don't find it at all surprising that they haven't found one after a little over a week.

Its probably at Diego Garcia
or Iran / Pakistan.

You get to reading and listening to reports from generals, and avation people...
Who Some of the passengers onboard are, it gets interesting.
This thing did not go down into the ocean... It landed somewhere and they know where it is...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_777
Boeing 777-200ER
Is able to carry up to 45,220 US gallons of fuel.
has a max range of 8,892 mi at max payload.
Cruise speed is 560mph (590mph max)

it flew 1 hour (560 miles) then turned and went off radar then flew for another 7 hours they are saying now...thats 3,920 miles more +560 miles = 4,480 miles give or take.

4,480-8,892 max range at max load = a range of 4,412 miles ( give or take) left of fuel in the tanks.

If the plane does show back up outta the blue flying along... I have no doubt it will get blowed out of the sky because nobody knows whats on board now.

just my 2cents

there is a hole in your theory.

Planes no longer carry their max fuel load. Airline only put in enough to get where they are going plus 20% incase then are diverted

Don't 777s have in-flight refueling capability?

I know Air-Force 1 does. I searched for the Boeing 777, but of course all I get is crap about this one missing plane.

But how much fuel was actually put in it is the question.
CNN said it only had fuel for 6 hours of flight.....but reports now are saying it had "pings" and flew for 7 hours after it turned off the transponder.
It was already in the air for 1 hour before it vanished.
so 8 hours in the air?
still at half a fuel load 4,400 mile range...that plane could have still made it to
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kenya...etc..etc...

Two of the passengers were/are Iranian's traveling on stolen passports...it could be anywhere a bunch of Asian extremists want a jumbo jet to use as a bomb. I don't buy the pilot suicide theory, any more than I buy that the Malaysian authorities actually have a clue about it going missing in the first place. It was last spotted by some Malay fishermen flying west well below the radar screen...where's the nearest old abandoned military base in that quarter of the world? Or maybe a bunch of hijacking headhunters needed a plane to start their own airline....can you say AirCannibal Inc.? Don't ask about the in flight meal.
