Didn't you post the roof rack before?

When I saw this thread I was expecting to see a full exoskeleton cage welded up and installed on the new Taurus. :)

No offense, but those welds STILL look like ass. Before you began "building/fabbing" things, you should have put some practice time in. Practice makes perfect, and you my freind, are not even close.

Even if they look like "ass", they are very strong welds, I am more than confident with my work to say its more than safe to use. And yesterday marked exactly 1 year since I started welding, so its not like I have a lot of experience behind me to say I have beautiful welds lol. With time will come experience, and more projects as well.

Practice makes perfect,

Being a state certified welder in 1in plate vertical and overhead in stick and MIG as well as stainless vertical TIG and all position pipe with stick.

The phrase practice makes perfect is bullshit when it comes to welding. Every machine is totally different. Even the same make, model and consecutive serial numbers are totally different running machines. Every spool of wire, consumable tip, electrode, lead, stinger, ground they are all different.

Couldn't tell you how many times I was running great passes and pulled an electrode out of the oven and it looked like a 2 year old did it.

Perfect welds happen every now and then.

Perfect welder (meaning person) you will never find one.

Welding. Gotta love it.

Kip in my opinion turn your heat up and move a hair slower.

Duly noted, my problem is I have 4 heat settings, and my generator can only handle up to heat 3, which is what I use, and my wirefeed is pretty slow (2 out of 8). Its a cheaper $250 starter Flux-core MIG welder.

I agree, looks like the welds need some work. Mine are better some days, worse other days.
Get a steady and comfortable position, make an air pass before you strike to make sure you can cover what you need to, and practice.
Grinders and flapper wheels for the finish.
Stay enthusiastic and enjoy your fabrication!
