I recently just bought my first Ford Ranger. (86 2.9 5spd) it has a hand full of problems but it was cheap and gives me something to work on in my spare time.

Here is the mini beast that is giving me so much trouble.

Now on to my question I have a 3 wires I have no clue where they go?
First wire is a yellow one that is coming out of a relay?

The second is an orange wire coming out off the cluster of wires on the passenger side of the motor.

The third is coming off of the starter solenoid and is tied into the eyelet with another wire that seems to be running into a link.

I have looked at the wiring diagram in the chilton book and still can't seem to figure out where they would run to. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where the wire goes......and where it SHOULD GO could be different if the previous owners did some "rewiring".

All I can tell you is.......start the truck and unplug the relay.....whatever quits working is what the relay operates...

or it could be the horn relay

just guessing

if i remember right the green relay plug is the fuel pump relay. no idea specifically where that one wire goes though. the orange wire may be a ground, does it have a ring terminal on the end? if so, that one should be bolted to the back of the cylinder head. the last one is tough to see, i dont have any idea what it is. it might be a power supply wire for something, possibly has something to do with the wiring mess at the relay??

I was thinking the orange wire was a ground too. I will look for a bolt to ground to. But no it didn't have a ring on it but from what the wiring diagram says it could possibly be. I will get some better pics up ASAP.

Glad to see you got your pics posted.. Looks like a fun ride.

SenorNoob thank you for your help btw! I am slowly figuring out how to work this forum stuff! Haha

Cool truck man... Unfortunately I don't know the first thing about first gen Rangers. However hit http://search.ebscohost.com/ and enter UserName Tech and Password Tech then pull up the wiring diagrams for your Ranger. You will find them under Auto Repair Reference Center. Hope this helps you out.

I forgot to mention that the diagrams have the color codes you may be looking for-
