I've upgraded my '84 Ranger to a high quality Airtex electronic fuel pump.

I would like to install a inertia switch for safety, but I can't seem to find a universal unit, and the ones I have found are frigging expensive $85! (more than the actual pump!)

Anyone know of a place that sells universal inertia switches at a good price?

When I say universal, I mean the ones with no weird OEM propitiatory connectors.

easy palce would be the bone yard. Any b2 just needs to be wired in series on the wire to the pump. you can cut the wire connecter out with it. I have a second one on my b2 cause the rail pump wire was bad and I added a new relay and inertia switch . put it in the cab cause they are not weather proof.

Pretty much any fuel injected Ford will have one. Just gotta find it. Some are in the back (Expeditions and some Explorers).

I had the same issue when I put the turbo engine in my '84. They're all the same. Pas. cars have'em on the right side of the trunk under the trim. I went thruogh several Rangers and found them all rusted and in bad shape.I ended up using one out of a
taurus.

Warning!!!!

Don't buy an inertia switch 2000 & up......my wife rolled our Exploder (with alil help from the truck that rear-ended our Exploder)......she was in shock & didn't turn the ignition off.....

the Sploder ran for 45 minutes upside down while the medics treated her....

but the Sploder engine sploded---it locked up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

inertia switch did.......................not...........................work,,,,,,,,!

That may not have been the fault of the switch. When we run the rail and injector cleaners you are supposed to start the engine and trip the switch and let it stall out so you have all the gas out and know the pump isn't running.

I've seen engines keep running for 5 to 10 minutes after the switch was tripped before the guy gave up and pulled the relay and shut it down. The suction of an already running engine can keep pulling fuel up from the tank, especially if it's warm.

This is why I want a new one, but even autoparts stores don't seem to have them(even vehicle specific) I don't like the ideal of using a used unit.

About the cheapest I've found.
