I was checking out CL for dealer sold trucks and most them are outrageously priced in my opinion:

I would never pay that much for a 94 in that condition..

and this one is obviously a fleet truck so i know it has a ton of miles on it, I believe this may be a exterminator companies truck before they got it:

I mean come on seriously that is some way over pricing dealers there. I will stick with the CL owner sales where i can find them for under 2000.

Dealer prices are always the start of haggling... anyone who pays the price on the sticker is a fool.

I've seen and wondered this too. We sell much newer and better condition cars for a lot less where I work.

Also, who would LEASE!!!!! a 98 Ranger?

USFS Trucks get used before its sold off though i would imagine that it got a lot of miles on it especially since its located near a bunch of mountains so it probably hard miles on it. I am thinking about just going to look at them and offering like 1000 bucks on them.

Of course i probably will not buy it even if they did accept that offer.

I found an 02 for 18,000 that is more then just a high price, Its just like my truck but not salvaged last i checked BB was around 6-7000..

site says its got 86,000

actually alot of the trucks and ect iv seen used by the gov are low mileage from being used only when the usual trucks broke down or they needed it for whatever reason. but thats from my DNR experiences

From my experience working at a state park, vehicles used there and places like there typically have low miles, cause they're usually only driving within the park...

yeah, dealers are stupid....there's been a B2 down in eastern NC on CL for the last 6 months listed for $3000....over 100k, title says that it's "rare" lol

As a side note, the USFS is the only Fed agency that won't sell a vehicle that has problems, up to and including scratched paint. They fix the mechanical problems before they sell the units. I've seen them doing bodywork and repainting before the trucks go to auction.

In general dealers seem to expect $1000-1500 more than the vehicle is worth. There is always room to negotiate though, cash talks.

prices are set based on wholesalers. if they can sell a car for 10 at auction they will price it a 14999 and maybe drop a few hundred. dont expect to get them at cost from haggling, cause they will walk you. basically they will say thanks for coming in now stop wasting our time we know it will sell for list price. best of luck.
