Where did it go?

94 x cab auto, have checked trans fluid for the past 5 years and has never been down. Havnt checked for about a year and yesterday the wife go to use it and it will not shift, just sits there and reves. no fluid around the trk, no fluid dripping anywhere. But now it gets fun, I check my chilton manual and it says mercon "{DO NOT USE DEXRON PRUDUCTS". chek my parts store that I ve been going to for thirty years and they say use mercon/dexron? what gives. To top things off I bought the mercon/dexron and came home from work early, only to pull into the driveway with the duelly 7.0 and the alt is smoking and the batts are dead. I only need some clarification on the fluid for the ranger, a couple buds will make me feel better about the duelly, its a company rig.

Mercon and Dextron 3 are the same stuff.

Yep mercon and dextron3 same stuff...if no leaky you better check your modulator to see if vacuum hose is full of oil, if diaphram inside it is bad it will suck the oil out of trans.

Thanks a lot I've never heard that, guess I'am still in the 60s when ford was real picky. I will be scoping out the vacume today once I get the new Alt.

yep vacuum modulator, above the passener side cat on the side of the trans, check your engine oil, its prob overfull or half trans fluid
