This truck is seriously starting to kill me. Within the past 2 weeks I have had to replace my front wheel bearings and rotors, (warped beyond belief with shot bearings) then I had to replace the clutch master cylinder because it was pissing fluid into the cab, now the clutch has an issue with it (both the throwout bearing and slave cylinder seem bad (its eating fluid and is making some interesting noises), and the flywheel ring gear is messed up. the truck has been pretty good to me in the past 5 years I have owned it and I dont have anything else to drive, or the money to buy something else, so it looks like I either fix it and go to work or not fix it and quit my job (which i'm not about to do anytime soon). /rant

This is the reason I do full checkups on everything on my truck every six months or so. If one thing starts wearing out... it's probably going to go completely bad when something else does too.

Anyway.. just hang in there and don't "half-ass" fix anything. It will be worth it again.

It is 24 years old.....

its an 86, so that would make it 22... I don't really have the cash to throw out to buy something newer so I will keep fixing it until it rots in half (then I would probably put everything on another frame and go some more). its been hydrolocked once, Its eaten a manual transmission and an axle, and the original 2.9 with 273,000 miles, uses very little oil and still gets 20 mpg with 31 inch tires and 4.10 gears. its not dead yet, and it WILL go 300,000. It goes great offroad and has proven to be a very useful tool for pulling out many stuck things, airing up tires, towing and hauling all sorts of $hit, and with all the tools that I have in it I could conceivably change a motor on the side of the road if I had an engine hoist, tractor, or large tree and chainfall. Its never left me stranded, ever.

I know the guy that I bought it from pounded it as well, he ran the clock up to 234,000 and I bought it from him for $150 in 2003 because it needed a cab, I've put it through hell, and the funny thing is it still doesn't tick.

My 2.9 leaks and burns oil like no tomorrow, my clutch hydraulic system is fucked, I just said **** it, next time this engine or tranny comes out, it's not going back in.

well, went and replaced the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder today. Removing the transmission was cake because all but 2 of the bolts holding the transmission to the engine had fallen out and the remaining two were loose. as was the starter. The throwout bearing and slave cylinder were shot from the prolonged misalignment, the flywheel had several "hotspots" as it looked to be warped. drives so much better now (obviously) I now know that I have to periodically check the bellhousing bolts for tightness.
