When Did Driving With Emergency Flashers Become a Thing?

I go out in the snow for fun, the people that don't are the ones making me go crazy... air down and go for it, avoid sudden moves of any form and there's no worries, ice is always a problem but plant two tires in a shoulder and that's not a huge deal anymore....

I saved my own life and a couple others earlier this year while stopped on an interstate. Was watch the car approaching from behind at 75 to 80, and eventually goosed it over onto the shoulder. The guy barely cleared the car that was in front of me while swerving into the oher lane, he would have nailed me at that speed.

A good percentage of these fools are on their phones. Maybe not in the snow, but who knows maybe even then.

That reminds me of an incident a few years back. Just outside Duncannon US 15 South goes from two lanes to one for a very short stretch between the exit and entrance ramps from the town.

It was me and one other car for about two miles, I was in the lane that kept going, he was in the lane that exited, and we were side by side. At the absolute last minute he makes it clear he is not going to Duncannon, not exiting the highway, and not going to accept being behind me. I had no good reason to slow down and let him over since I couldn't even see his turn signals because of where I was. So he just started coming over into my lane and almost forced me into the barrier. I figured it out when my wife yelled.

That jack-off was lucky I didn't torch his car. It was a black Jeep Compass with a very distinct plate number, from the town I worked in, and I knew where he lived.

I just used my flashers... I had to poop really bad and needed to alert other drivers of the situation.

This is why I drive a feista... I wouldn't move at all, hit me all you want I don't friggin care. I sue your balls off and go to Toys-R-Us and get another car. I really want a bumper sticker that says something like " *warning* I really don't care about this car ".(y)

I swerve around idiots with the ranger, but **** the fiesta...

George Carlin always said "Remember, anyone going slower than you is an Idiot--Anyone going faster than you, is a Maniac!

the fizz the fazz the fizz fazz...

That's crazy talk - always keep your tires on the most polished, smooth and frozen part of the late. Never drive on the snow berm where there's traction!

Then again with with your hands gripping the wheel in terror with all the force you have, staring straight ahead while the flashers blink in your eyes (not to mention the headlights of the 50 cars behind you in your mirror), you probably never noticed anything about the road anyway. It's important to remember that if a wheel starts to spin you should hold the throttle to the floor as hard as possible.

I'm surprised it's against the law in Florida. Every time I've seen someone driving with their flashers on over here it was someone with Florida plates driving through the mountains.
It doesn't stop them from doing it here either. The only time it's acceptable to drive with your flashers on is in a funeral procession and I'm not even sure that's actually allowed under the statutes.

I did it eventually because everyone else was in the procession on Monday. It felt weird to be going down the highway at 60mph with the flashers on.

I kinda thought you were just supposed to run the headlights...

I think 4-ways are to use when YOUR vehicle may be a hazard to other vehicles, like when you break down or are having other issues that require you to slow down to get off the road.
The morons that use them when driving are then correct to use them because they are a HAZARD, but they should get a ticket for not having them on all the time, and then another ticket for not using turn signals properly :)

In bad weather you turn on your lights

Violence never solved anything... Dash cams do! I would have let him go, gave my video to the cops. They'd arrest him on a hit and run and I get to sue him and his insurance company.

I seem to attract them... Like flies to a pile of sh!t.
Me too sir, me too. I run with my headlights and driving lights on all the time. And when I see the brake lights ahead light up in the traffic on the highways around here, I’m on the flashers. We never had tablet interfaces in cars and smartphones back in the day. Eyes on the road, not some screen ‘cause there weren’t any!!!!!!
I also upgraded my horns to half a dozen Loudmouth air horns behind the grille. Didn’t stop an asshole driving a big SUV while texting from coming over on top of me today, actually clipped the corner of my bumper. I was on the horns when he started coming over, so he knew. Kept going, didn’t stop, didn’t slow down. At the next light he got to see what a big pipe wrench does to expensive bodywork.

Why risk going to jail over someone else? Sure I'd like to beat some people with a wrench but even threatening someone like that is more illegal than what he did... if he pushed the issue it would be you in cuffs and he'd get off with nothing. 20 years ago I'd probably do the same thing lol. But old age does make you plan your actions better.

I guess this thread got edited as I was posting lol.
