One of the rare occassions finding vehicles at wrecking yard with wheels still on them I decided to look for mine a spare(it didn't come with one)
Even if the pattern doesn't match I'd still rather have a designer than a simple steel rim, but wasn't sure what years would fit the 96 Explorer 4 door w/ 15 inch rims?

Is that cable the only thing that holds the spare up?

They had some sport rims I think was on a 2001 but can't remember for sure.
The tire size was right but the rim I wondered if they use the same lugs,
Guess I'll pull one down and see if my best guess will do :)

I did wind up getting a spare rim off something at the Pickers 50% dill, at the counter just charged me a steel wheel,
I think about 10 or 12 $. Stopped at Wmart coming home and got a new tire put on it, and next day cranked it up in the spare rack.
It matches my other rims exactly, I even got the spare hubcap! Now if I have a flat and swap it out, it won't be the off style spare tire :)

I have 5 aluminum rims, 4 with new winter tires and the 5th with a good all season on it. I didn't have time to put the spare up under the bed before going out on an out of town job.....you know where this is going, don't you?!
Yep, put a nail in the outermost sidewall, real close to the tread. I have a compressor on site so filled the tire and ran to the store and bought a fix a flat kit for C$12. Spent a 1/2 hour and got it plugged....yay!
3 days later I was down to 10psi...damn.
Filled it with air and 2 weeks later its still at 35psi !?!
Whatever...its holding air for now.
Once I get home I'm fixing the spare tire holder so I can carry the spare with me....
