Wheel hub question...

The truck is new to me so in an effort to get to know the vehicle I was testing the front wheels for play and bearing quality. Without the 4 wheel engaged should the wheels spin freely with no rolling torque value? My wheels take a little effort to spin and when they do they come to a quick stop.

On a 02 FX4 how can I know Im ordering the right hub assem. and where can I find them the cheapest? Im pretty sure I have non pulse vacuum hubs with 4 wheel abs judging by the threaded shaft and the sensors. I just would like to be prepared for when I do pull them...anything else I need (hardware, extra components, etc...)?

I really wouldn't worry too much about how free spinning they are... it could vary from several things from the size/weight of wheels to the brake pads you have on (assuming they may be slightly rubbing)

You'll hear a noise when the bearings are going bad. probably enough to create vibrations through the truck. I once drove a truck until the front bearing completely came apart and the front wheel came off going down the highway... I ignored noises for a few months for that to happen.

If you're looking for preventative maintenance to do to keep them from wearing out, just repack your current wheel bearings with bearing grease. They won't go bad unless they're dry (or have water or some foreign material in them).
