O.k. guys and gals, I know I just got screwed,,,, but what do you think the stealer charged my son for a front hub with a new abs sensor???? ... parts and labor.... I would like to know what the cost should have been. Also, why can;t they just replace the sensor.... they said it was broke off in the hub....can this be true.
Dave

I would imagine it'd be around $200-250 in my shop. I have never seen a sensor break off without some impact causing it.

Well, that hub runs about $270.00 retail for a National hub assy. with 4wheel ABS. So assuming the dealership used that part and not a Motorcraft, I would guess they charged you right in the neighborhood of $400 list for the hub. Then I believe that book rate on that is right at 3 hours (could be wrong, but you said to guess) So i will assume $100/hr labor

Parts: $400.00
Labor: $300.00 +
Total: $700.00

I guess about $700 to replace one hub assembly. This assumes too that we are talking about the 99 4x4 you mention in your profile. How did I do?

Also, the hub/bearing/abs sensor are all integrated as one unit, so it really kind of it replace all or nothing.

a front wheel abs sensor from Standard Motor Products is $121.84 + tax. (our National hub is also $270.00) the sensors are replaceable, but not many parts stores stock them as they would rather sell the whole hub unit than just the sensor (most dealser ships buy from local parts stores and buy THE CHEAPEST parts they can find for non-warranty repairs). im guessing the bill was around $550.

I need one of those for my '00 , care to mention where I can get one?
I'm in Toledo so a run up to Detroit is easy.

To the O.P., here in the rust belt the ABS sensors on almost anything usually break during removal attempts.

Image I just had both of the front ones on my 02 4x4 replaced today. 456.56 to replace the assembly and 99.99 for troubleshooting the problem. It broke out like this 296.36 for the hubs and 160.20 for the labor.
I didn't look at the old ones but I have looked at pictures and I don't see how you could replace the sensor. It looks like a sealed unit to me.

at my dealer we replace with motorcraft parts, seldom do we go aftermarket, on motorcraft we can offer a parts and labour warrenty covered threw ford. the bearing should come with the sensor.

I replaced one on my uncles 97 explorer and the list on the bearing was approx. 280 I believe(not 100%). and labour is 1.5

so 280 + 150 = 430 before tax for each bearing. Sound about right?

I need one in my 01 explorer but im waiting untill its got play in it, right now its just noisey

Also, i have never successfully removed any abs sensor intact from a hub and bearing unit that had more than 60 000km on it. Mind you I also live where they heavily salt the roads. That is just my experience.

Ok it's either 1.1 or 1.6 hrs so either $74.80 in labor or 108.80 in labor. The hub would be 323.19 in my shop I was a little off for a total of 397.99 plus your taxes..... can't forget unlce sam!

Ok back in The first of the year I replaced both hub/wheel assemblies for just over $300.00 parts/labor, and I got Timken hub assemblies.
