I have a 2wd ranger with an open 7.5", and I'm thinkin about putting in some sort of locker to mildy increase its off road ability, and help with the ridiculous amounts of snow and ice up here in Canada. What does everyone think of the lock right? I do mostly on street driving, and really only go off road when out hunting. Would the lock right, or detroit ez locker for that matter, be a good investment? I'm mainly concerned with how it will make the truck behave on corners during regular city driving. And if those are no good, how about the other traction system that Powertrax makes?

tire ware would increase...and you could have the rear slide out from under you...if you are mostly high way i would swap in a l/s diff from any 7.5....they behave a tad bit better on the road then the lock right

Tire wear isn't going to increase by much (I have a Detroit Locker in mine and have never noticed much difference). Thing is to not gas it so hard that it causes the inside rear wheel to slip and chirp during a turn.

The Lockright is decent among drop-in type lockers. Another you might consider is the Aussie Locker. Stay away from the EZ lockers though, they haven't been as reliable.

been using a Lockright for 4 years now in my dd/trail rig. lots of snow and ice here and no problems or complaints really. i drive it like any other of my vehicles... on ice i go slow and try to stay in control. give it just enough gas to get the job done. slow down before the turns and stay off the brakes till the turn is complete. having a manual tranny really helps with the braking and preventing the wheels from locking up on me.
getting a Detroit for my ranger and will be fun to see how much different it is compared to the Lockright.

I've had the PowerTrax "No-Slip" in my Winter DD without a problem. Actually drive just normal, if it's icy I would always slow down anyway but it sure helps getting thru the snow.

The powertrax no slip is what they market for cars and other purely road vehicles right? So i'm guessing that would be a lot better for my needs than the lock right. Where is a good place to get them from? I am in Canada, so it has to be a place that will ship here

Do they have the no slip on there? All I could find was the lock right. Or are they the same thing?

are you sure you have an open diff?

make sure its an open diff before you buy a locker.

a posi is a joke if your looking for usable traction....get a locker.

its freaking awesome, dont question it, just go buy one and put it in. I only regret not diong it sooner.

Detroit locker in. different from the Lockright for sure... no clicking when i make my turns! didn't know it was there til i hit a patch of ice. very smooth recovery. so far, i'm liking it lots!!!
guess i'll put the new 7.5 L/S i was going to use up for sale!

I don't think it matters what rear you have when it comes to ice.

I don't think it matters what rear you have when it comes to ice.

it does when one tire is on ice and the other has traction...i can put one tire on ice and the other on pave and accelerate as fast as i want....so yes it does make a difference.

That detroit locker you mentioned, do you have the name of it? And do you use it for daily driving? If so, how does it handle vs. not having a locker in?
