What's with these shocks?

I recently bought my 2003 3.0 xlt. I took it for tires and a front end alignment and the guy told me my front shocks were bad. When I looked under there I found the bottom bracket of each shock had come off the rubber bushing. I replaced the shocks and now they are back to the same state with the bottom brackets pulled off the rubber bushings. The bottom bolt tabs will only let them be installed one way so that part is pretty simple. I'll need to replace them again but if I need to do something different I wil. Any ideas? Thanks.
