Hey,

I'm trying to figure out why my truck is misfiring, I am currently looking into the ECM as being the culprit after changing the ignition side and other various components. While getting to the ECM, i found out there is a lot of this white/brownish crust on the case, not sure where it came from as the area that the ECM sits in is clean. Any ideas?

Also has anyone experienced using a code reader that would say something like" vehicle not responding" then you would have to turn the car off and back on to get the reader to see the vehicle again?

Looks like water damage, most likely caused by a leaking windshield. It may have happened years ago, and is just now corroded to the point of failure.

It might be worth looking for a new ECU just to be sure but yeah it does look like it could of gotten wet at some point.

But then again..Those electronics look good!..

You might have moisture in the connector housing itself (where all the female pins are). What I would do is take the connector off the ECU (after disconnecting battery) and let it dry out for a day. Same with the ECU. Maybe even some compressed air to help drive out any moisture. If you could let the cab sit in the sun to get nice and warm that helps too.

Try drying things out, and then put everything back together to see if it helps your problem.

....and get some silicone to seal up your leak!

Thanks for all the replies

So far I scraped off all the corrosion and the inside looks like its ok, not sure though. I hear people saying if the caps are bulging on the top then the ecm is bad, but I don't see that.

To: Blackfrog, hoping to get my mileage close to yours but living in CA have to make sure the truck is running efficient enough to pass smog. Which is why I have begun to check everything since I failed smog as a gross polluter.
