What's the word on NITROGEN for filling tires?

Also nitrogen molecules are supposedly bigger and the tires don't lose air over time. Not worth it IMO, but it's your money.
They put green valve caps on tires filled with nitrogen.

That is what I have heard. My tires lose air fairly quickly and I have not figured out why. The only thing I have heard is my dad saying it is because of my alum rims but I am not sure I believe it. BTW my tires are in very good condition.

Take your tire and spray it with soapy water and that will show you where the leak is and check the valve stem and the bead too!!!!

any costco tire shop will fill you with nitrogen for free and you can add air anytime you want you just start to lose some of the benefits tumwater costco tire shop warehouse # 064 since 05

problem with nitrogen is when u mount a tire on the rim there is still air in it b4 u fill it. so even after u fill it with nitrogen u still have air in it. inorder to get just nitrogen in it u would have to get the tire under a vaccum then fill it with nitrogen after

That is 100% correct. The only benefit that I've seen for using Nitrogen is on the race track. You can maintain a more consistent tire pressure as track condition change over the course of the day.

I have nitrogen in my winter tires and have noticed during the cold snaps they don't contract as much as they did before. And this is -25 to -35* C cold snaps.

i run 80% nitrogen in mine.

ROFL! But I noticed the same thing too with the cold weather....

I would say what you are experiencing is; there is no moisture in the nitrogen to freeze and convert to a solid. Air has a percentage of water vapor that will convert from a gas to a solid at low temperatures. This causes a reduction in gas volume. This does not happen to 100 percent of the water vapor at 32 degrees F (0 degrees C). Even below freezing there is still water vapor in the air but the lower the temperature the less the percentage of water vapor is present. This is the main reason high flying aircraft use dry nitrogen in the tires.

How do you know they are putting nitrogen in your tires anyway?
So they could charge $20 to $50 for air.

well i am in the air force and we have SGNSC's self generating nitrogen servicing carts. we use nitrogen in all our planes. because when they fly up high the pressure in the tires will change and practically deflate. so by putting nitrogen in them it holds the same pressure, also is flame retardent. so when they come down for a landing their tires dont blow the **** up cause of brake heat. so if you can find them for free good deal. if not it lasts longer then normal air. so you be the judge if its worth it. i on the other hand get it for free!!! after all i should cause i fix the damn ubits that produce it.

valve stems probably. I bought a set of NoLoss Valve caps (out of boredom mostly) which have an o-ring in side of the valve cap that prevents air from escaping from the valve cap. I dont know how well they work though since they are on my new rims which i havent installed yet

Well I know becuase I was there. It was done at my work with the Nitrogen Tank I helped the guy move.
