2007 Ranger XL, 5spd manual, 2.3L. I'm changing the clutch and discovering that one of the bellhousing bolts is nigh-near impossible to access. There are 10 bolts, 9 of which are reasonable, the 10th is on the drivers side top of the housing. I'm wondering if there is some trick to accessing this bolt. Thanks.

Two options are available.

1) Reach around from the top and get it with a wrench.

2) Drop the ass end of the trans and use some really long extensions.

Lowering Tranny worked

Thank you for the advice. I removed the transmission cross member and lowered the transmission/engine as far as it would go. That gave me enough room to go over the top of the transmission with about 3 feet of extensions. I used a wobble-joint instead of a universal at the socket because it was easier to position. I did somewhat the same thing on the passenger side top bolt as well.

I have a 36" extension that is really handy for that bolt

Well after a trip to Harbor Freight I now have more extensions than I'll ever need again. Plenty to loan out to neighbors.

Hey, can I borrow and extension?
