I have 03 ranger with a 4.0 and 5 speed and its grides when you put it in 2nd and 3nd cause the syncs are out of it. I've been trying to find another trans for it but all i can find are 04 5 speeds. So i wanted to know is there any difference between the 03 and the 04 5 speeds like shifters, mounts, how it bolts up, etc?

fairly sure that the ranger hasnt changed (other than cosmetically) since 01 when they put the 4.0sohc in it, so any 01+ 5spd should work.

Only 4.0 transmissions will bolt up. It cannot be from any other engine. Also, if you have a 4wd, you need a 4wd trans. If you have 2wd, you need a 2wd trans.

what fluid is in it?

Fluid has a great deal to do with shift quality...

The '98-up transmissions typically don't wear the synchronizers much...
