What's the difference - what changed?

Looking for rear brakes for a '69' Fairlane and noticed that it uses the same rear as the '83-94' Ranger. The '95 and up use a different rear shoe. Can't imagine what changed or why, all are the 10"x2 1/2". You can find performance shoes for the Fairlane (and many Mustangs), that's where I started at.

Not sure of the exact change, but good to know because I have some parts for an 88 that I was going to use on the 96 after I swapped things around...

I bought rear parking brake cables for my 88 and found out they are different...the way the PB cable connects to the adjustment connector (where both lines meet) and how it attaches to the lever requires a slightly different cable...so now I have $60 worth of PB cables that I may not be able to use...

The shoes may be longer or shorter...longer would be better I'm sure...

I could see the PB lever being different but why the shoes? Anyway, ordered a set for the Fairlane so I should know soon. 10" x 2 1/2" was the biggest brakes available back then even on the wagons and big powered cars.

The parking arm could be the difference. Some of them just have an arm with a hook that goes through the shoe in a square hole. Some had a pin in the shoe that goes through a hole in the arm and is held in with a horse-shoe clip.

It would be enough to change the part number of the kit.

Dave, couldnt you take SN95 rear discs and bolt them on to your axle?

All kinds of options for a disc brake set up on any of my projects, just not going that way on the Fairlane.
