Well my truck is 100% stock and I would love to do something(s) to it. I am thinking about lifting it for a a little before off road performance but what should I do for all around better performance?

Intake?
Exhaust?

It is a 1994 4.0 V6 and has pretty good power to tell you the truth but more wouldnt be a bad thing ;) haha and I am not sure what all I could do to gain or help my performance...whether that be mileage or speed or anything else.

So what are some things I could do to get my truck goin even better?

Thanks!

Well how much work and money are you willing to put into it is the real question. With enough money and time you could drive the thing to the moon, but realistically whats the budget?

Being only a Junior in highschool my budget is limited but for around 500$ what would be the best upgrades to do to my ranger?

jet chip or equivalent could help...might you take a look in the tech library. good stuff int there

depending on the gears in your truck now, you might want to consider swapping in different gears in your axles. you should feel more pep and performance right away unless you already have 4.10's or lower installed.

engine upgrades would include headers and larger diameter exhaust.

anything else under the hood would mean going into the engine changing the cam, porting and polishing, etc. rather expensive to be sure.

good luck to you! :icon_thumby:

aerodynamic bug shield and spoiler.

you could get a die griender and pull your intake off, then port and polish then yourself. match the gaskets to the ports while you are at it. that pretty cheap power!

Gears would net the biggest gain. Youd lose top end bu gain tons of accleration.

+1 thats what I would do. Headers and a decent exhaust will help a good bit.

ditch unneeded weight...

By far the cheapest and best solution to gaining performance....

And one I can't do cuz I have to carry a bunch of tools for work, lol.

I tried a Jet chip on an OBD1 Ranger and I did not notice an improvement at all. But I did find myself stopping at the gas station more frequently...

For your budget, pick up some headers and run a 2.5" single exhaust all the way back. Gears would make an improvement depending on what you have now, but with your budget I don't think you'll be able to afford it just yet.

BUT! (don't you hate this part) Don't waste your time and effort upgrading your truck until you are sure all the routine maintenance has been done and you do not have any check engine lights or other problems. Depending on the condition of your truck, the biggest performance gain might just be a tune up.

PS:You should post your axle code or gear ratio.

3.73 gears on a D35....Far as I know its the 8.8" rear.

Oh ok...so the jet chips wont do enough to pay 200-300$ for?

Thanks!

id say get a set of 31's and put them on your stock rims and regear to 4.10s or 4.56 for some real power, maybe even 33's with a body lift. there like $100. but that set you off pretty well

The problem with chipping OBD1 setups is that is all EPROM programing. The only way to truly update or change the program is to replace the computer with one that has a different program. You can put a chip in a lot of them, plugs right into the box, but unfortunately a lot of the computers just choose to ignore the chip and if anything just go into failure mode and dump tons of fuel (gofast, sound familiar) and they don't adjust the timing any.

Ditch your spare, throw a K+N in, port and polish your heads. I have a 2.9L with 3.45s and a K+N with 2 inch pipes. Sounds good, runs great (most days) and once I get the new tranny in, she should rip (again).
