I have a 1988 ford ranger 4x4. I am puting a 302 in it and a 8 inch skyjacker lift. I want to turn it into a mud/street truck. Which axles would be the best for this application????

Tire size? wheel width? how much money do you wish to spend? horsepower? tranny? Transfercase?

For a mud truck I would stick with good strong axles with smaller pumpkins to drag through the mud. a dana 60 hangs down alot more than a 44 but you do give up strength, he is talking about 450 hp max, so trying to drag those massive axle housings through the mud might be overkill. my .02

I would probably use a 44 hp front and a 9" rear both can be built to 35 spline axles

both can be built cheaper than a 60 and 14b and nearly as strong internals (R&P) being the weak point on my choice

go find you an old 70 model f250 and pull that front axle out and take the rear as well good combo and those trucks im pretty sure have i think the 460 if those axles can handle that kind of torque and power they can handle a 302

if you want it legal for street use have a look at 66-77 bronco axles. proper width and 44 front 9" rear. stock front shafts have smaller u joints so upgrading to chromo's is best if your running taller than 33". find a 76-77 and you get disc brakes front and big bearing rear 9"
