I have a 85 regular cab short box two wheel drive 5 speed. It's kind of a dog. I've been looking around and figure a turbo would net best bang for the buck. But I'm new to 4 bangers. I usually run v8s.

Go to the turbo forum on here or the TURBO RANGER FORUM...TRF site

running a carbureted turbo is a pain apparently, and the cast pistons would be the limitation and would take up to about 5psi if I had to guess

Yeah, the carbed version turbo is a dog too...it only rated at slightly more than the stock engine...you'd be better off to go with a 2.3, stroke it to 2.5 with the forged pistons and then turbo...probably closer to 200 HP that way...

a stock turbo engine with the boost controller unplugged (running at ~16psi) is at or more than 200hp

Well if a turbo on my currant motor isn't going to make a noticeable difference, I wouldn't go through the hassle of a 2.3 or 2.5 swap. I'd just go to the parts shed and grab a 302 and a 3 speed auto.

I guess if a mod wants to move this to the turbo section that would be great. I didn't scroll down far enough to even notice a forced induction section. I'll just Blame it on viewing from my phone. Lol.

You have a GOOD POINT

on the 302 but you CAN pick up on good 2.3 turbo deals my son found one with a T-5 tranny out of a 85 SVO mustang for 200.00 guess it's just being different thats appealing.:dunno:

Well, I could swing 200. Lol. Guess I'll have to keep a eye out! I really would rather keep a 4 banger in it. Everyone around here does a v8 swap. N I really didnt want to fallow the crowd.
