whats everyones average MPG?

I installed an ultra-gauge a few weeks ago and it keeps track. The ultra-gauge is great.

You can track anything the trucks computer has data on - up to eight different things. They are about $65 and they plug right into the OBD2 port if the truck is new enough to have one.

On a recent 175 mile trip I got a maximum of 23.5 mpg (highway miles only). When I got back in town it immediately started to drop. Most of my mileage is back and forth to work on the freeway so overall I get pretty good mileage. The truck has a camper top in the back which streamlines it a little.

When I first got the truck about 5 months ago it got about 19 mpg. I put in new plugs, plug wires, air filter and removed the roof rack that was installed. If you have a really dirty air filter it will ruin you gas mileage.

I got a 98 manual transmission, 3.0, 4wd ext cab, 3.73 gears with live front axles. It has never been great on gas. Normal driving I was getting about 18 ish at 60 mph on a flat road, this truck does not like going uphill at all.
My mileage dropped a little lately since I have an intermittent misfire.
People told me not to do live axle swap because I was gonna have too much drag and the mileage would drop too much, but honestly I didn't have any noticeable change on mileage.

06' Ranger - 2.3L, 150k miles, short bed, regular cab, work truck.

City: 21-23mpg
Short trips: 23-25mpg
Highway trips: ~29mpg

I always shift at 2500 rpm unless passing/taking on-ramp.

A few posts earlier I mentioned my 09 4.0 4x4 5 speed getting 17-18 MPH...Around here in rural driving with the usual changes in speed it was a consistent 17.2 or so....I recent removed the 31-10.50 AT type radials and put on a new set of 235/75-16 HT radials...They are the same height as the old tires and the speedo read the same at an indicated 60 mph according the GPS...The mileage is now 18.1 under the same driving conditions..It's my wife's truck and she likes the quieter tires...:D
